DENVER, CO, October 20, 2014 – On November 9th, as many as 2,000 Girls on the Run participants and coaches from around the Denver area will flood The Great Candy Run with young girls working toward completing their end of season 5K.

[blockquote]”We are so thrilled to be a part of The Great Candy Run,” says Lisa Johnson, executive director of Girls on the Run of the Rockies.  “The day is so fun for all involved and the smile on the girls’ faces as they cross the finish line says it all.” [/blockquote]

Presented by The Colorado Institute for Maternal and Fetal Health in conjunction with the University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, The Great Candy Run will take place on November 9th in Denver’s Washington Park.

Girls on the Run is an after school program that uses the power of running to change the way girls ages 8 – 13 see themselves and their opportunities.  Girls learn to stretch themselves physically, mentally, emotionally and socially while training for a 5K run event. Girls on the Run currently serves more than 4,000 girls in the Greater Denver area through schools and recreation centers.  Each year, more than 50% of the Girls on the Run participants receive tuition remission to participate in the program.  To find out more about Girls on the Run and how to start a program, visit www.girlsontherunrockies.org.

Colorado based Fetal Health Foundation is the sole beneficiary of the event. A national 501(c)(3) aimed at supporting the research of treating and curing intrauterine fetal syndromes, Fetal Health serves as a liaison between families diagnosed and the fetal centers that provide care. More information on the Foundation can be found at www.fetalhealthfoundation.org.

The Great Candy Run kicks off with the Gumdrop Kids Fun Run at 9:45AM and The Great Candy Run 5K beginning at 10:00AM. To learn more about The Great Candy Run, visit www.thegreatcandyrun.com. For more details or information, contact Talitha McGuinness at 980-721-5799 or talitha@fetalhope.org.
