With today’s every 24/7 connectivity to each other (email, facebook, text, instant messaging, twitter, etc.), we are more connected more than anytime in history. Ironically while we are connected more, we are also less personable, kind, and caring. While I love technology, I feel it has brought us further apart in meaningful relationships.
How often at family get-togethers are most everyone checking the latest status on facebook or texting? I am sure many of us are. What are we afraid to miss? OMG.. thank goodness for facebook. I would have never known that my barely acquainted facebook “friend” planted their flowers today. Phew. What a catastrophe would it have bene had I not known. Good thing I am checking my facebook feeds while at a family dinner.
Now as I unplug from the electronic grid and go out for some exercise, I think about all the wonderful word we can put in front of the word, “sweet” and how that has some deeper meaning. Then it kinda hit me, “Live Sweet.”
[blockquote name=””]Then it kinda hit me, “Live Sweet. ..We allow too many things in our lives to “sour” our moods, our experiences, our loss of true connection with others.”[/blockquote]
So what? Well we allow too many things in our lives to “sour” our moods, our experiences, our loss of true connection with others. I challenge all of you to not allow yourself to live sour, but live sweet. Yes of course, sour times will happen, but sweet times are always around us if we look for them and if we help make them happen.
The Great Candy Run’s tag line is Run Sweet, but the event is really more than just to run or walk, it is an opportunity to have fun, to unplug, to be doing something engaging with family and friends. It is for that brief few hours a time of living sweet. Think what we could do if all of us would work to live sweet.
How often at a store does the employee really try to be friendly? Sometimes you feel like more of a distraction to them and bother. How often do we leave the phone off and take time truly spending with family? Think how wonderful the quality of time if you could have interaction with family without them constantly being engaged on their smart phones. How often do we go out of our way to be kind? Not to say we all look to be “mean”, but we don’t really try to be kind either. Think if everyday when you had an interaction with someone, that you purposefully tried to make that encounter a kind one? Maybe buy someone an unexpected cup of coffee, or hold open the door for someone entering a store and wish them a wonderful day. Think of the positive impact that would have on their day and how they treat others. The best part of all of this, is how wonderful it will make you feel and bring sweetness into your life.
So what do you say? Will you join me? Let’s do it. Let’s be sweet, love sweet, live sweet, play sweet, and of course run sweet.
Sweetcerely,
Lonnie
